| When I was a kid there were few things
| |
| | brands when I was a kid were Mongoose,
|
| more important to me than my bike, and
| |
| | Diamondback, GT, Dyno, and CW. The fact
|
| there were few things I'd rather be doing
| |
| | that I can still list these brands at my
|
| than riding my bike. Just up the road
| |
| | age is a testament to the impact this
|
| from me was an empty dirt lot known as
| |
| | period had on my life.I'm talking about
|
| "the Jumps". All the kids in the
| |
| | 80's, that halcyon decade when BMX and
|
| neighborhood went to the Jumps to jump
| |
| | freestyle riding was just getting big but
|
| our bikes. The local streets and
| |
| | it wasn't the huge deal that it is today.
|
| driveways were where we attempted the
| |
| | These days you can see riders on
|
| tricks we saw on TV and in freestyling
| |
| | television hawking everything from
|
| magazines. This was when freestyling was
| |
| | deodorant to mobile phone companies to
|
| just getting popular, before the modern
| |
| | video games. Heck, a bunch of riders have
|
| era of X Games and multi-million dollar
| |
| | video games named after them. Dave Mirra
|
| stunt riders. The names of pros were
| |
| | comes to mind when I think of such
|
| known only to the dedicated few who spent
| |
| | mega-popular ridres. Another superstar is
|
| their allowances on freestyling and BMX
| |
| | Matt Hoffman. Hoffman has his own bike
|
| magazines.I remember there was an older
| |
| | company. I remember when he was the young
|
| kid a few blocks over who was the hero of
| |
| | gun. Dennis McCoy, who I mentioned
|
| all the younger kids. He just seemed
| |
| | earlier, was another young up-and-comer
|
| cooler, ya know? And his bike was better
| |
| | who exploded on the scene, took over, and
|
| than ours. He rode a Redline. Nobody else
| |
| | has since become one of the old guys.
|
| I knew had a Redline. Redlines were the
| |
| | Time flies, doesn't it?If you're
|
| ultimate bike in my mind. It was the
| |
| | interested in learning more about BMX and
|
| brand legendary freestyler R.L. Osborn
| |
| | freestyle history, there are some
|
| rode. That cool older kid a few blocks
| |
| | excellent web sites which will jog your
|
| over had a Redline and he was the best
| |
| | memory and take you back to the days when
|
| rider I knew. Now that I think about it,
| |
| | doing an "endo" was the coolest thing to
|
| though, I have no recollection of having
| |
| | do, when riding in circles in your
|
| actually seeing him ride. I just remember
| |
| | neighbors driveway was a way to pass an
|
| him sitting there on his gleaming
| |
| | afternoon. If you're in the market for a
|
| Redline, just being cool. That's what
| |
| | bike today, there's also plenty of info
|
| cool's all about. Another bike company
| |
| | online for that. Most of the companies I
|
| which was popular at the time was Haro.
| |
| | mentioned are still in business and
|
| Haro had all the best riders like Ron
| |
| | continue to lead the market and sponsor
|
| Wilkerson and Dennis McCoy. Then there
| |
| | the top riders. All of them have web
|
| was Hutch. Know anyone who had a Hutch
| |
| | sites providing more information on their
|
| bike? Know anyone who still has one? It
| |
| | history and their current product
|
| could be worth something because Hutch is
| |
| | lines.Gregg Hall is an author living in
|
| no longer in business. Other popular

| | Navarre Beach, Florida.
